Rink Rats · Privacy Policy
Last updated August 24, 2026
Rink Rats is built for kids to use at the rink, offline. It doesn't have accounts, doesn't show ads, doesn't use analytics, and doesn't send your information anywhere. Everything below explains exactly what the app touches and why.
| Data | Used for | Leaves the device? |
|---|---|---|
| Location (while using the app) | Noticing when you've arrived at a new rink, so it can add a sticker to your collection | Never |
| Motion & fitness (steps, floors climbed) | Counting steps and stairs at the rink to earn in-app Pucks and Ice Shards | Never |
| Local network | Finding other nearby Rink Rats players at the same rink, so kids can say hi | Only to nearby devices, briefly |
| Game progress (badges, pucks, built rink) | Saving your kid's progress between visits | Never |
That's the complete list. Rink Rats has no other sensors, permissions, or data access.
With permission, Rink Rats checks your location only while the app is open, to recognize when you've arrived somewhere new so it can mark a rink as "discovered." That check happens entirely on your device. Rink Rats does not log a location history, does not reverse-geocode your address, and does not transmit coordinates to us or anyone else — there's no server for it to go to.
Rink Rats reads step and stair-climbing counts from your device's motion coprocessor to turn "walking around the rink" into in-app currency. This data is processed and stored on-device only, and is never combined with location history in a way that leaves the app.
The Nearby feature lets a Rink Rats player discover other Rink Rats players on the same Wi-Fi or Bluetooth range, so kids can send each other a friendly emoji wave. Connections are encrypted, require the player to manually accept an invite (nothing connects automatically), and only a small fixed set of preset emoji can ever be sent — no free text, no photos, no personal information of any kind passes between devices.
Rink Rats is designed for children to use directly. Because the app collects nothing that leaves the device — no accounts, no analytics, no advertising identifiers — there is no personal information transmitted to us or any third party for us to collect, use, or disclose. Parents can review exactly what the app can access at any time via their device's Settings app, and can revoke Location or Motion access there without losing any saved game progress.
All Rink Rats data lives in the app's local storage on your device. Deleting the app deletes everything it saved — badges, currency, built rink, discovered rinks — permanently. There is no separate account or server-side copy to request deletion of.
If this policy changes, the "last updated" date at the top of this page will change with it. Material changes — anything that would add new data collection — will also be reflected in the app's App Store listing at the time of the update.
